The Ultimate Review Week - Ultimate Wolverine Vs. The Hulk

Greetings from your friendly neighborhood Searnold [Shár- Nŭhld]. Today is Tuesday, October 21st, 2008. Welcome to my comic book review blog - thanks for tuning in. Are you interested in a comic book but not sure you want to shell out the cash? Let me know and I’ll review it for you!

Today’s Issue:
Ultimate Wolverine Vs. The Hulk #1 & #2. These are the first 2 issues of a 6 part mini-series taking place in Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. The story is being written by Mr. Lost himself, Damon Lindelof with art by super star Leinil Francis Yu (New Avengers, Secret Invasion). These first two issues were published WAAAY back in January 2006, and the series has not been heard from since. However, Damon has finally finished the remaining scripts, and there are plans for Leinil to finish the art sometime in 2009.

Premise:
Nick Fury hires Wolverine to take down The Hulk. What more do you need to know?

Awesome Parts:
So far, this series has seriously kicked ass. The Hulk rips Wolverine in half! $#!T son - so much for indestructible! (That’s not my line - I stole it from the book.) Don’t worry though - Wolverine gets some good shots in, too. The action is accompanied by great story involving Fury’s attempts to convince Wolverine to hunt down The Hulk and some great flashbacks about what Bruce Banner has been up to since his last appearance in The Ultimates. I would definitely say this is some of Leinil’s best work - and Damon certainly knows how to tell an interesting story.

Un-Awesome Parts:
Well… 2 years of tardiness comes to mind. Who wants to read 1/3 of a story? Also, we’ve seen both The Hulk and Wolverine A LOT since this series took place. So the tardiness has sort of spoiled the ending in the sense that we know nothing relevant is going to happen.

My Recommendation:
Absolutely! Anyone who is a fan of The Hulk, Wolverine, or action should check this out. This was a wonderfully fun read! Especially if you’re prepared and know that you’re only getting 1/3 of a story that has no lasting consequences -then you won’t be so disappointed when you have to wait 2 years to get the next issue.

That’s it for today. As always - thanks for reading - see you next time. And don’t forget to let me know if there’s a comic book you’d like me to review for you!
