The Cartoons of Mike Gray

Published by supersearnold at 5:05 am under Comic Reviews Edit This

Greetings from your friendly neighborhood Searnold [Shár- Nŭhld]. Welcome to my comic book review blog. Today is Saturday, October 4th, 2008.

Today’s Issue:
The Cartoons of Mike Gray. This is an ashcan sized black and white ditty put together by my friend and fellow member of the Sacramento Comic Creators Group Mike Gray (Infinite Goliath, Thom Cat). It collects 31 of his Far-Side-eesk comic strips. There was a limited run of 300 - and Mike gave me one of the last copies to review right here on my blog (thanks Mike!) All this to say I doubt you could find this in stores - but make sure to check out Mike’s webiste:

Premise:
31 quick laughs. Some of an adult nature. None any longer than a single picture.

Awesome Parts:
It did what it was supposed to do - I laughed. Sometimes even out loud! ;-) I’m in awe of Mike’s ability to consistently present set-up and punchline in a single image.

Un-Awesome Parts:
Not all of the comics made me laugh. In a group of 31, I think it’d be rare for each of them to hit any individuals’ sense of humor. The book also reads REALLY quickly, so the fun doesn’t last very long.

My Recommendation:
Again - I doubt you’ll be able to check out this particular comic book. But definitely check out Mike’s website - he’s a funny guy. ;-) (And I’m not just saying that because I know him!) http://www.pencilforhire.com

That’s it for today. I swear Amazing Spider-Man week is coming soon. Promise. Might even be this week. As always - thanks for reading - see you next time.
