Fluff #1
Greetings from your friendly neighborhood Searnold [Shár- Nŭhld]. Welcome to my comic book review blog - thanks for tuning in. Today is Thursday, September 11th, 2008.
Today’s Issue:
Fluff #1 - a “funny animal” comic from writer/artist/animator/comedian Mike Gray (Ape Escape, The Infinite Goliath). This issue is self-published by Mike and contains 5 short stories within its 24 black and white pages. Most of those stories as well as a few other short little ditties can be viewed for FREE at Mike’s website:

Fluff #1 is all ages - meaning safe for kids - but funny enough that adults will chuckle, too.
Awesome Aspects:
24 pages of non-stop laughing. Mike - with his experience as a stand up comedian - does a great job of quickly setting up a joke and delivering the punch line. Even the back cover has a single page story on it which I found hillarious. This is the best (okay…. only) funny animal comic book that I’ve seen in a long time. Part of that could be because I don’t normally expose myself to that genre (do comic book stores even carry comics like that anymore?) Nevertheless, Fluff #1 kept me laughing through the whole read.
My Misgivings:
Obviously the comic is very different from today’s average comic book. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing - just that you shouldn’t pick this up expecting to find super heroes or any sort of action adventure.
My Recommendation:
If you enjoy quick comedy, then check out Fluff #1. But if funny animals don’t get you chuckling and you normally read comic books just for the action or intricate plots, then I guess Fluff probably isn’t your cup of tea.
That’s all for today. As always - thanks for tuning in - see you next time. And remember to keep reading!
